It’s not all cars and motorbikes when I’m working, I design logos, web pages and illustrations on all sorts of subjects.
I’ve recently made a logo for an HR consultancy, with a very open brief. This can be good or bad for a designer, having a direction from the client can make for more focussed proposals, but an open brief can really make you think about the subject. I thought about the usual HR imagery (hand shakes, org charts, things going upwards etc), but the only idea that survived that was a general upwards movement. Then I realised HR is really a people job, lots and lots of people every day. So I thought of a logo made up of lots and lots of people! Client liked the idea so I started making people, hundreds of people… I suffer for my good ideas 🙂 In the end I had fun trying to vary them whilst not going too mad on the amount of colours.
An invaluable reference for making all these people was this book, which I got when I was doing A-Level Art in the 1980s. Pictures of people doing everyday things from all angles. Mad idea – useful book.
